Japanese Horror Month: Bake-Kujira

Well, it’s the first of October, and it’s Halloween time!

Spooooooky

So, this month, I’m going to look into some Japanese Horror, and it’s impact in the things we love: Anime, Comics, and Games. But… As it’s the first, I went to The Obakemono Project, and I’m going to press Random, to see what comes up! I’ll be doing this each Monday, but today gets a special update for it!

Suck it Moby Dick

The Bake-Kujira

The Ghost Whale

How cool is this? A skeletal whale, found off the Shimane Prefecture, with ghostly fish and birds flocking around the spectral leviathan. Which could be just a killer name for a Heavy Metal Band. The Bake-Kujira is supposedly a manifestation of the hatred whales feel for the hunters.

Those who would try to hunt the whale said their spears would pass right through it, as if it was not there. Some accounts say the whale could fly, but all accounts did say it was a skeleton of a whale, or the rotting corpse of a whale.

I’d like to write up more about this, but I’m finding very little information. Really, I would just assume that the Bake-kujira would attack fishing boats around where a mass of whales were killed. But, really, it’s a cool image, and could be really cool for a type of story.

Come back Monday, for another demon/monster update, then stay tuned Tuesday for a different treat. Also, Thursday, and Friday will have updates.
